Presentation Guidelines
Using PowerPoint
PowerPoint presentations include
pictures, graphs, charts, and key
words to help the audience more
easily understand what is being
said by the presenter.  It is not a
script.  There are a couple of
guidelines to follow when
preparing a PowerPoint to use in
class during your presentation.
* There should not be too many
words on your slides.  Titles and
remarks are sufficient.  Students
watching the presentation should
not have to read anything.
* The PowerPoint should NOT
function as a script for the
presenter.  This means that you
should NOT write everything that
you are going to say during the
presentation on your slides.
Students are not allowed to read
from their PowerPoints.
* Students must look at their
audience, the class, during their
presentation.
* Bring your PowerPoint
presentation at least a day early to
make sure that it’s working
properly on the classroom
computer.  It’s not possible to fix
the problems on the day of the
presentation, and that can really
cause serious problems for the
presentation.

Presentation Paper
The presentation paper is
something that you give to the
class and the teacher.  It must
be brief, and it should have the
important main points that all in
the class should remember.  It
must not have all of the
information that will be spoken
during the presentation because
it is not a script.  However, it
should contain a website where
students can learn more.

The World's Strangest Animal Presentation

Students should search the internet to choose which creature throughout the world they would consider to be the strangest.  After making their choices, they must prepare a presentation which may include the use of presentation software such as PowerPoint or Prezi.  In their presentations, students must introduce the animal and demonstrate why they feel that the animal that they have chosen is the strangest in the world.  The presentation should take no longer than 5 minutes per student.  This presentation requires that the students prepare a presentation paper which includes the animal's conservation status, its scientific classification, its geographical range, and general information about the animal such as its behavior, diet, and habitat.  All such information may be gathered from the internet on sites such as Wikipedia, however students must cite the sources that they use.  Additionally, students must state the reason that they feel that their animal is the strangest in the world.  Visit the Presentation Papers link to view samples of presentation papers for this presentation.
Package Tour Presentation

Students should form groups of 3 to 5 students for this presentation.  Together, students must choose one country as a group and plan a package tour for that country to present to the class.  The presentation must employ some type of presentation software such as PowerPoint or Prezi.  Each member of the group must focus on one part of the tour and participate fully in both the planning and presenting phases of this project.  The total presentation time per group is a minimum of 15 minutes to a max of 25 minutes. Additionally, each group must prepare a presentation paper which would look similar to what a package tour business would print out to advertise their trip to prospective customers.  Visit the Presentation Papers link to view samples of presentation papers for this presentation.
Personal Ad Video / Presentation

Students should make a video ad in which they would be attempting to attract the type of person that they are seeking.  This does not have to be a romantic ad at all.  Students may be seeking a husband/wife, a girlfriend/boyfriend, a friend, a study partner, a fellow sportsman, etc.  This presentation is an individual assignment and is not done in groups, however that doesn't mean that students can't work together in the preparation and editing of the video.  There are many samples of what previous students have done with their videos to the right.  Allow these samples to inspire you.  Don't worry if you have no video making or editing experience.  Take this as an opportunity to learn something fun and new.  Find another classmate to assist you in the production of your video and have fun making it.  There is no presenation paper needed for this presentation.
Informative Speech Presentation

Students must choose a specific topic to speak on.  This should be something that each of them knows well and is qualified to teach others based on extensive experience.  Students must make a clear thesis statement, establish their credibility, and show how the topic of the study is pertinent to the members of their audience.  Then students must give examples to bolster each of the main points in their thesis.  After they have done so, they should end with a concluding statement.  This presentation is very similar to the way that students are expected to write in the academic writing courses of the ACLI program.  This presenation should take no longer than 5 minutes per student.  All students must prepare a presentation paper which consists of filling out all the required information from the informative speech outline that the teacher gives them.  Visit the Presentation Papers link to view samples of presentation papers for this presentation.
Using a Video Clip
If you choose to use a video clip
in your presentation, there are a
couple of guidelines to follow.
* The clip must be no longer
than 45 seconds.
* If the clip has spoken narration,
the sound must be turned off.
* The presenting student must
continue speaking while the clip
is being shown.
The presentation is the spoken
part of the project. This
information should NOT be put
into the presentation paper or
typed out on the PowerPoint to
be read during the presentation.
You must look at the audience
rather than looking at the
screen. If you need notes to
read, you should put them on
NOTE CARDS that only you can
see.
